The Level 2 Theatre and Performance diploma is a dynamic pathway crafted as a foundational step in the realm of performing arts, equivalent to four GCSEs. This course is designed to cultivate a range of skills essential for success in the performing arts while also focussing on personal and creative growth. Students can expect to develop not only their performance abilities but also their confidence, creativity, and collaborative skills.
Throughout this one year course, students are immersed in a diverse array of performance styles, offering ample opportunity to experiment and delve into the various avenues of the performing arts landscape. From classical text to contemporary theatre-making, students explore a wide range of genres, skills, and approaches. Whether it's delving into the depths of characterisation in acting or crafting original material, students will find themselves equipped with a foundational toolkit for performance.
Across the span of a year, students engage in a series of immersive experiences, including practical workshops, ensemble projects, and a public showcase, all of which form the cornerstone of this experiential, project-based course. Through collaborative projects, students not only develop their performance skills but also cultivate crucial teamwork and communication abilities, essential for success. Furthermore, these projects provide students with the opportunity to develop their own unique artistic voice and creative style.
Complementing the core study programme is the Plus+ programme, dedicated to nurturing students' personal and social development. Through a variety of enrichment activities, workshops, and presentations, students are empowered to become well-rounded individuals capable of navigating the demands of future study, employment, and personal growth.
In recognition of the importance of core academic skills required for employment and further study, this course has been designed to work alongside the study of English and maths for students who are yet to secure a 4 (C) in either subject.
With a focus on progression, after successfully finishing the Level 2 Dance and Musical Theatre course, students are equipped to consider their next steps in education. This might involve applying for one of SGS College's Level 3 courses or A Levels across different departments, exploring alternative providers offering Level 3 courses or apprenticeships, or even applying for one of BIPA's Level 3 courses.
